B&B Flevoland

Established in 1986, Flevoland is the youngest province in the Netherlands. This expansive polder was ingeniously created by the Dutch, who harnessed the Zuiderzee with extensive dikes. Lying four meters below sea level, this land features winding roads and fertile soil for farming. The ancient islands of Schokland and Urk became part of this territory as the sea receded. Nature has beautifully reclaimed its space, resulting in unique landscapes. The vast wetlands of Nieuw Land National Park are a paradise for birdwatchers, where you can also spot herds of cattle and konik horses. Fun fact - all the villages are equidistant, ensuring residents easy access to services.

While Lelystad serves as the provincial capital, Almere is the largest city and, due to its proximity to Amsterdam, is a fantastic base for your stay in a B&B in Flevoland. Beyond the cities, the province is primarily open land, making it essential to visit the charming fishing villages of Urk and Schokland, which were islands before annexation, as well as the historic harbour of Elburg. For water sports enthusiasts, Flevoland is ideal, featuring 90,000 hectares of water for sailing on the IJsselmeer, windsurfing, wakeboarding, paddleboarding, or canoeing on the Markermeer and Veluwemeer.

The three polders in Flevoland create the largest expanse of artificial land in the world, offering fantastic walking and cycling opportunities.
